Army Ten-Miler and Other Running News...

Yesterday, I ran the Army Ten-Miler -- one of DC's largest road races. The course was pretty flat and fast. It was such a nice day. I PRed (set a personal record for those who don't know this lingo) at 1:35 which is about 8 minutes and some seconds faster than my Cherry Blossom Ten-Miler time. I guess all the summer track work outs and giving up delicious vodka gimmlets on Friday nights for the past 6 months really paid off. My pace was around 9:30 minute/mile which is stellar since I've been hovering around 10 min/mile pace for quite some time. It felt good to be a little faster. I chit-chatted it up with fellow runners at the starting lines. For many, this was their first 10 mile race and they were really excited. I always like to see people happy about running.

My knee is still bothering me somewhat. I hurt it (or shocked the shit out of it) when I was out on my 22 mile run two weeks ago. My dad swears that it is my body's way of saying "oh shit, that was a long run." But I dunno. When you get fatigued, you tend to start doing funny things. Maybe I ran on it weird for the last 4 miles. I didn't enter my state of delirium until around mile 18 plus the trail was somewhat of a downhill. So any injury must of occured when I wasn't thinking correctly. Anyhow, I'm icing it every night and taking plenty of advil.
As many of you know, I signed up for the 2008 Marine Corps Marathon. It is 3 weeks away and counting. I expect all friends to be out there cheering on the runners. Little do you know, but it really does make a race go by alot quicker. Just imagine what one might be feeling when she crosses mile 2 and has oh, 24.2 miles to go. Let's not think about that one. Anyways, please let the cheering continue!

Besides the marathon, I'll be running the Boulevard Bolt with my dad on Thanksgiving Morning. I guess this race has become a family tradition since my parents moved to Nashville. How does it work??? You get up early on Thanksgiving morning and run down Belle Meade Blvd and back -- totaling 5 miles. Belle Meade Blvd is where all the "old money" is in Nashville. It's quite nice to see all the big southern-style houses, etc. It's usually very nipply out. Last year, I had to wear a pair of surgeons gloves while running to keep feeling in my fingers. All in all, the Bolt is Nashville's interpretation of a Turkey Trot, but with no turkeys, oh, except the ones that will be in our bellies in the evening hours. :) Also, running five miles early in the morning is enough justification to helping myself to an extra piece of pie!

Lastly, I signed up for the National Half Marathon in March. As many of you know, I always have to have a running goal, even when they it is months and months away. I am also considering doing the Country Music Half-Marathon with good old dad in April.

Happy Running!

I need to use the phrase "shocked the shit out of" in a conversation this week.
